Make a donation

Help us answer more calls and provide suicide prevention and crisis support services to all Australians by making a donation today.

By volunteering for Lifeline not only will you be making a difference to the lives of other Australians who use the Lifeline services, but you’ll also be enriching your own life.

It takes a lot of dedicated people to provide Lifeline's telephone crisis support services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across Australia. Lifeline Canberra relies on support from the community to answer the crisis support line, raise funds and run the iconic Bookfair events.

Online Bookstore

Lifeline Canberra earns a major part of its funding by selling thousands of donated items at our three Bookfairs. We offer a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, as well as magazines and pamphlets, comic books and atlases, records, CDs and DVDs, games and puzzles.

A limited selection of our rarer, more valuable or collectable items is available for purchase from our online bookstore catalogue.

Lifeline Canberra's biggest ever Bookfair

February Bookfair Wrap-Up

Our first Bookfair for the year was held last Friday to Sunday (10 to 12 Feb) at Exhibition Park and was by far our biggest ever Bookfair!

When we arrived first thing Friday morning, we were delighted to see so many book lovers already lining up - with one dedicated customer even camping overnight to be the first in line! By 8.30am, the queue had snaked from the entrance to the Coorong Pavilion all the way down and around the back of the Budawang Pavilion! Patrons waiting in the queue were studying the map and index, planning their visit.

We opened the doors at 9am and patrons wasted no time, rushing into the building, straight to their favourite sections. It took over 10 minutes for the queue to enter the building and we had over 1,500 people through the doors in the first hour. Fantastic!

Saturday's Family Day kicked off with balloons and face painting for the kids by the talented Gecko Gang. We were also lucky to have the team from Pure Gelato on Saturday and Sunday to help keep us cool with their delicious treats!

It was heart-warming to see how many customers had brought food to donate to the Communities@Work food drive. Over 480 items were donated to help stock the organisation's community pantries and support people experiencing hardship.

Despite the heat, we had a record-breaking 20,000 people through the doors over the three days!

Thanks to ...

Special thanks to our warehouse and bookfair volunteers who work so hard to make the event possible. Thanks also to our event partners and supporters; Icon Water, Exhibition Park, Storage King, Hertz, Canberra Outlet Centre, ANU Centre for Continuing Education, SBX, JJ Richards, Kennards, Prime7, Canberra Weekly, Leader Security, Coordinate, Even Dots Creative, Promo Concepts, Artcraft Signs, Bunnings, Supabarn Casey and Supagas Mitchell. And of course, thanks to the Canberra community and those who travelled from around the country to attend and support our life-saving work!

Lost property …

We had a number of items handed in at the Bookfair, they're currently safe in our office waiting to be reunited with their owners. If you lost anything at the Bookfair, please call us on 02 6171 6300 (you'll be asked to identify your lost property).

Competition winner …

Congratulations to Paul Calbert who won a $50 Bunnings gift card through our mailing list subscription competition! Thanks to everyone who entered.

What's next ...

Our hard-working volunteers are back at the warehouse getting ready for our Southside Bookfair in July!

Local women save 50 lives

In April 2016, a local  group of women from Young decided to help out Lifeline Canberra in raising much needed funds for their 13 11 14 crisis support and suicide prevention service.

Driven by local women, Jayne Bokkerink and Kay McDonald who rallied up friends, Margueritte McGlynn, Anne Hoven and Joy Rule, these amazing ladies gave up their own time to create a new initiative for Lifeline Canberra. The new "Dare to Care Bear" is a limited edition bear which will incorporate a new direction for Lifeline Canberra for educating young children about expressing their feelings and life experiences.

These limited editions bears were recently sold at the Lifeline Canberra Gala where purchasers included Dr Brendan Nelson and Dame Quentin Bryce.

The cost of a life changing call for Lifeline Canberra is $26. The profit from each of these bears will go directly to our local 13 11 14 crisis support service, whereby every bear sold will help change a life and contribute to saving more lives in our community.

Every 10 minutes one suicide attempt is made in Australia. Together with Lifeline Canberra these local women are hoping to change this statistic with the funds raised.

If you would like to purchase a bear please email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Friends of Lifeline July Newsletter CEO Welcome

lifeline portraits 01

It’s been a very busy first month for me as CEO of Lifeline Canberra.  Thank you to everyone for the warmest reception and well wishes.  I am thrilled to be a part of what is an amazing organisation, doing incredibly important work, and I look forward to contributing towards the sustainability and growth moving forwards.

Despite the change in CEO we’re moving ahead at full steam with new initiatives and strategies.  Whilst the demand for our 13 11 14 service continues to grow, we must ensure more funding to rise to meet the need.  Watch this space as we continue to strengthen and grow our existing programs, and explore new opportunities to increase our capacity to serve the community.  Please visit our website for information on our CORE Solutions training, the Once in a Lifetime Campaign, our Women of Spirits Awards and any other campaigns in which you might get involved.

Thank you to our staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to assist in their various fields. We are continuously calling out for more volunteers to join the various teams.  Without this dedicated team of selfless individuals it would not be possible to achieve what we are achieving every day.  If supporting individuals in crisis on the phones is not something you are able to commit to at this stage then fear not, there are a number of other volunteer positions vacant.  Please contact us for more information.

I hope you enjoy the newsletter and, as always, don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or ideas.  We’d love to hear from you.

Kindest regards,

Carrie-Ann Leeson
