By volunteering for Lifeline not only will you be making a difference to the lives of other Australia who use Lifeline services, but you’ll also be enriching your own life.
It takes a lot of dedicated people to provide Lifeline's telephone crisis support services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across Australia. Lifeline relies on over 11,000 Volunteers nation wide to support Lifeline's crisis support line, help raise funds, work in retail outlets, or conduct administrative duties.

Online Bookstore
Lifeline Canberra earns a major part of its funding by selling hundreds of thousands of donated items at two big Bookfairs and several smaller sales each year. We offer a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, as well as magazines and pamphlets, comic books and atlases, records and CDs, videotapes and DVDs, games and puzzles.
A limited selection of our rarer, more valuable or collectable items is available for purchase from our online bookstore catalogue.

Training
Lifeline Canberra offers a wide range of training courses to the Community and Corporate sector. In addition to training the volunteers for Lifeline's well-known telephone counselling phone service, the training team also has extensive experience in delivering training to:
- Public sector
- Private business
- Community sector and
- Persons ages 18 years and younger
We run Public Workshops that are available for anyone in the community or we can discuss coming to you to run a specific workshop that has been designed for you and your staff/situation. Lifeline Canberra has training rooms and facilities available, equally we can arrange to come to your location and deliver an in-house session for you.

Would you know what to do if someone talked to you about having thoughts of suicide? Lifeline Canberra offers a two-day program designed for people in the community who want to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in helping people at risk of suicide. ASIST is a highly interactive, practical, practice-oriented workshop.

safeTALK is a half-day presentation which aims to increase suicide alertness by teaching participants how to recognise signs of a person in distress and considering suicide. Participants learn how to respond appropriately to a person considering suicide, and how to use available community resources to link that person with professional help.

This two-day course addresses many mental health issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, drug and alcohol, deliberate self harm and eating disorders.

Lifeline Canberra is the original creator of the Accidental Counsellor course. This two-day program has been developed for people in virtually any role, who find themselves in situations where counselling or empathetic communication is required.
The program provides participants with a range of tried and tested counselling skills that work to create effective communication and deescalate clients who are in crisis e.g.
- highly distressed
- angry
- abusive
- manipulative
- drug or alcohol affected or
- need assistance for a mental health issue
