It takes a lot of dedicated people to provide Lifeline's telephone crisis support services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, across Australia. Lifeline relies on over 11,000 Volunteers nation wide to support Lifeline's crisis support line, help raise funds, work in retail outlets, or conduct administrative duties.

Online Bookstore
Lifeline Canberra earns a major part of its funding by selling hundreds of thousands of donated items at two big Bookfairs and several smaller sales each year. We offer a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, as well as magazines and pamphlets, comic books and atlases, records and CDs, videotapes and DVDs, games and puzzles.
A limited selection of our rarer, more valuable or collectable items is available for purchase from our online bookstore catalogue.

Services
Every hour of every day, trained volunteer telephone counsellors are available to the community of the ACT and region. For over 30 years, these people have provided an increasingly invaluable service to the community. Lifeline is there 24 hours a day, seven days per week, when other services are closed. Many services and private practitioners refer clients to our service for support between appointments and after hours.

Lifeline Canberra is experienced at and offers delivery of a wide range of training courses to the Community and Corporate sector. At Lifeline we run training for organisations (Community Sector as well as Government Departments) on a range of topics.
Some such sessions available include “Accidental Counsellor”; Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and also Mental Health First Aid. We also run other programs relating to Dealing with Difficult Calls, Building Quality Client Relationships, Emergency Readiness - Personal Support after Disaster and other such similar topics. Lifeline has expertise in delivering training in two areas; Volunteer Training and Community or Corporate Training.

LYNX is the Youth Services arm of Lifeline Canberra. Not only do we ensure that all Lifeline counsellors are trained in youth issues, we manage other youth-related projects within Lifeline. These are aimed at enhancing the resiliency of young people, as well as empowering them through enhancement of their skills, and opportunities to participate in their community.
Mission: To improve the resilience and general well-being of young people in the Canberra region.
Our objectives are to: Strengthen and support the capacity of young people to support each other; Develop a skill base amongst young people that enables them to support their peers in an adequate and effective manner; Develop a set of innovative programs that enhance resiliency; Expand opportunities for young people to develop the skills they require to develop their full potential and thus participate fully in community life.

Lifeline Canberra’s EAP is a short-term professional counselling service that employers can offer to their staff – helping to add to the health and welfare of their most valuable asset.
