First Edition of the Abridged English Translation of German naturalist Hermann Burmeister's Handbuch der Entomologie (five volumes, Berlin, 1832-55). This edition includes additions made by the author himself with original notes and thirty-three engraved plates by the translator. The engraved frontispiece is hand-coloured. The original green half-leather with marbled paper covered boards are worn and the spine-label is intact.
